Community Events & Resources

**CPAC’s community TEA WALK 2011, Oct. 8, register and show your support for the Asian American community and diversity! Food, music, more!

Connections everywhere…Car Repair and Food Tips!  Last 2 trips to the mechanic have netted foodie perks–Middle Eastern restaurant tips and an emissions sticker–and now A/C fix and Caribbean food!  Gotta like that…

Kevin So, good friend and awesome Asian American folk/blues musician is on tour and coming to Atlanta! We met years ago in Boston through The National Conference for Community and Justice. Kevin offers a unique blend of talent and perspective through catchy blues rhythms and fun, insightful lyrics.

————-

Attended a screening of the poignant film, “Vincent Who?” sponsored by OCA and met Cam Ashling and Helen Ho Kim of AALAC (Asian American Legal Advocacy Center of Georgia), leaders of a new nonprofit. AALAC is the first nonprofit law center devoted to protecting and promoting the civil, social and economic rights of Asian Americans in the Southeast. AALAC is looking for volunteers and sponsorships!

I met the Buffalo Soldiers, Atlanta Chapter at the Keeping It Wild Annual Gala. Their American and Black History enactments about the role of the Buffalo Soldiers in protecting and establishing the western frontier are inspiring and educational. Not to be missed. More

GO, GO DEMOCRACY -  APIAVote is a fairly new nonprofit organization that creates effective and strategic partnerships to mobilize AAPI (Asian American Pacific Islander) communities to participate in the electoral and public policy making processes. APIAVote is the only national institution focused on voter mobilization and civic participation of the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Community.

Leverett Wing, a good friend and fellow Harvard Kennedy School of Government alumnus, is the Executive Director.

THE WHITE HOUSE PROJECT - Vote. Run. Lead!

I won my first campaign for elective office as a newcomer and against an incumbent. Serving in local public office was one of the best learning experiences and an ideal way to make a difference!  Go Vote. Run. Lead!

I was introduced to TWHP when I heard founder, Marie C. Wilson, speak on her first book tour about a decade ago. They are an excellent resource with on-the-ground workshops and campaign preparation training nationwide, including several upcoming events in Georgia.

EAT the GARDEN: I am excited about local, organic veggies! Find a farmer’s market near you, courtesy of Georgia Organics and Local Harvest has a nationwide map! Newer ones are cropping up so go show your support: East Lake Farmers Market and finally, new markets in Smyrna!

————-

If you’re in western MA or looking for an amazing farm apprenticeship, say Hi to Dan & Karen at Brookfield Farm in Amherst, MA. I was a farm CSA shareholder for several years and I learned how to Wok the Garden with their farm veggies.

Check out and support the Oakhurst Community Garden for helpful great gardening, natural arts classes and supplies!

TRULY LIVING WELL – runs a CSA (community-supported agriculture) and offers URBAN FARMING CLASSES and FRESH VEGETABLE farm shares throughout the year.

Stay tuned for more community events around town that will stimulate your tastebuds, mind and conversation!
